Ironwood Carnegie Library

Community Center Space Project

Ironwood Carnegie Library Community Center Space Project*

In February 2024, the library was awarded a $750,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity to assist us in creating a space that supports our community in areas such as early childhood literacy, senior services, and workforce development. Bids were solicited and Meyer Group was selected for the architectural design and Ruotsala Construction for construction of the 1,000-square-foot addition to the library. We hope to break ground on the new addition in March 2025.

  UPDATE 03-08-25
Things are happening sooner than later!
  • Xcel Energy is thawing the ground so they can move our gas lines.
  • As a result, they need to cover our entire back area with plastic until next week when the lines will be moved.
  • Patrons will not be able to enter our building through our back entrance.
  • Patrons will not be able to access our book return.
FOR NOW...if you need to return books:
  • Call us at 906.932.0203 and we will renew them for you.
  • Use your library card to renew online if you know how to do that.
  • You can still come into the building during business hours by accessing the front steps.
  • You can drop returns off in the Clerk’s office of the Ironwood Memorial Building located at 213 South Marquette Street in Ironwood during regular business hours.
Our book drop will be moved at a later date, once the project itself kicks in.  But for the next week, while Xcel Energy is working, we ask that you be patient.
ALSO…if you want to check out books but can’t due to the ramp, call Lynne at 906.932.4789 and we will help you select books and set up a time for you to pick them up curbside!
